Marc Jacobs Decadence Review: Steamy, Opulent, But Good?
Marc Jacobs Decadence is a popular women’s perfume that targets the stylish crowd. But, in true Marc Jacobs form, the packaging prompts a bit more swank experience.
Our Marc Jacobs Decadence review is a fun one from top to bottom. But let’s decide if this perfume is the right one for your needs.
Is everyone ready?
Marc Jacobs Decadence – The Basics
Annie Buzantian and Ann Gottlieb created Decadence on behalf of Marc Jacobs in 2015. Decadence has remained a top-selling women’s perfume ever since.
Buzantian, a Firmenich perfumer, is considered an elite master perfumer with the highest of credentials. She won perfume Lifetime achievement awards in 2003 and 2015. You’ll smell her works of art across several major brands, including Giorgio Armani, Izod, Eva Longoria, and Avon.
Ann Gottlieb is a direct fragrance descendant of Mrs. Estee Lauder. In 1983, Gottlieb founded a company of her name and continued to help create some of the top-selling perfumes in the world.
It isn’t difficult to see how combining Gottlieb and Buzantian is a match made in the perfume heavens.
The Decadence bottle seeks to portray a glamorous lifestyle, and it does so unequivocally. With a gold chain, this snake pattern handbag conveys a message of power and abundance.
Marc Jacobs’s prior two perfumes were fun and youthful. But with Decadence, Marc Jacobs sought the creation of a more mature brand; hence, why Gottlieb and Buzantian were brought on. Decadence is far from a teeny-bopper experience and more for the mature, successful woman.
What Does Marc Jacobs Decadence Smell Like?
Gottlieb and Buzantian chose an amber floral arrangement for Decadence notes. At the top are saffron, iris, and plum. The middle consist of jasmine, sambac, and Bulgarian rose. The base notes which help balance Decadence use papyrus, vetiver, and liquidambar.
You’ll catch the plum at first spritz, which gives way to a sweet and spicy experience. You might catch a paper’ish smell or something a bit more factory in there. Not sure what causes this but it doesn’t happen for everyone. It could be how it reacts to skin (see my points above regarding trying perfume samples).
Decadence is an evening perfume that’s a bit heavy (in a good way). Decadence seeks to achieve a more opulent experience, and it does so in spades. Decadence fits the bill, whether for cocktail hour, a date, or an elegant fundraiser.

Marc Jacobs Decadence Commercials, Advertisements
Marc Jacobs Decadence commericals feature, most notably, Brazilian model Adriana Lima. And she’s as sultry and sexy as ever in these ads. The 2021 Miss Universe judgehappily, flirtatiously, rolls about an industrial floor coddling her Marc Jacobs Decadence perfume. There is a lot of focus on the mini-handbag that houses Decadence which conveys a stylish aura. With Adriana Lima, everything is going to be hot and this Decadence commercial certainly falls in the same category. This is flat out steamy. Here is a link to the commercial, below is a screencap for the lazy among you.
Final Notes
Marc Jacobs Decadence is a top-selling, popular women’s perfume that’s not only mature, but a commentary on elite culture. It’s not shy and crafted solely for the woman who wants to take on the entire room. Its mini handbag compliments a fragrance that reaks of confidence and elegance.
