Dior Sauvage Eau de Parfum Review – Is This Fragrance All Hype?
Christian Dior introduced Dior Sauvage in 2018. And he did so with a splash, using Johnny Depp as its celebrity endorser. In the commercial, Depp becomes frustrated strumming an electric guitar, flees the city in exchange for some Texas oil fields, and runs into a bison.
None of this smells good. But as our Dior Sauvage review will show, that doesn’t mean this fragrance doesn’t win.
We get this question more than any other question regarding this fragrance.
First and foremost, let’s unravel a great big mystery: What is the difference between Dior Sauvage parfum and eau de parfum?
Dior Sauvage Parfum is a collection of aromas of Dior EDP as a whole. It isn’t considered an upgrade in any way, although that’s how many misinterpret things. Dior Sauvage Parfum is the primary source of interest both in our article and by the public.
It seems odd, sure, but that’s how it goes.
In terms of bottle design, Dior Sauvage leverages a cuboid-style bottle along with a convenient magnetic lid. Moreover, its atomizer is calibrated to perfection, misting an appropriate amount of cologne per pump.
I know we don’t discuss perfume bottle design often, but it is certainly relevant in this case. There’s something about a nice bottle of perfume that inspires and excites.

What does Dior Sauvage Parfum smell like?
Officially, Dior Sauvage Parfum is an Amber Fougere fragrance. It’s a deep, earthy type smell that only hints at citrus tones. Like Depp’s portrayal of a bored electric guitarist looking for adventure all over the map, Dior Sauvage oozes man of mystery, wood chopping, no lighter to start a fire, type guy. In other words, Dior Sauvage is manly stuff. And due to the Calabrian bergamot, expect a tinge of spice in your air space.
You may or may not pick up on a hint of lavender. It’s slight and requires a pretty sensitive olfactory system to note it.
The perfume creator, François Demachy, said, “I didn’t create Eau de Parfum Sauvage by working on power. Its signature is already very identifiable. It was not a matter of exaggerating or saturating the composition. I was striving more to enrich each of the dominant notes to give it a new color.”
Dior Sauvage insists upon itself, but that’s OK, as it’s an undeniable high-quality, sexy experience. This is the fragrance a man wears when he’s about to pick up his date. But it’s also a scent that has a place in everyday life, though maybe a tinge too seductive for ordinary workplace affairs (pun intended).
How long does Dior Sauvage eau de parfum last?
You’ll run in sexy mode for around 9 hours. Dior Sauvage lasts about as long as most top designer brand fragrances.
What’s Bad?
Well, any time a fragrance is repped by someone as famous as Johnny Depp, you can quite imagine how deeply mainstream the scent becomes. And that’s the case with Dior Sauvage, one of the most popular, widely-worn fragrances.
In other words, you aren’t likely the only one wearing this stuff at the trendy cocktail hour. But hey, you’ll smell good – and so will they.
Final Thoughts
Dior Sauvage is a winner; at the very least, you won’t offend anyone while wearing it. In contrast, it pitches itself as an enigmatic experience; counterintuitively, it’s a safe choice. Did that make sense? I hope so.
