Judge Says Jay-Z Won’t Pay $68 Million in Perfume Contract Breach Lawsuit

On Wednesday, a Manhattan jury cleared rap mogul Jay-Z of liability in the $68 million perfume contract lawsuit. The perfume company Parlux claimed Jay-Z failed to make live appearances to promote the company’s perfume.

Jay-Z, attired in a dapper dark suit, left the courtroom donning a grin. The grin of a winner, my friends.

But, Jay-Z lost a $2.7 million in royalties countersuit. That said, Jay-Z’s countersuit was likely brought about as part of legal strategy. In the end, Justice Andrew Borrok decided neither party owed the other. Clearly, that worked out best for Jay-Z.

“You failed to prove your case, they failed to prove their case. That’s the outcome,” Judge Borrok told both party’s attorneys.

The jury deliberated for a mere two hours before returning the verdict.

“I’d like to express my gratitude to the jury, especially during these difficult times,” Jay-Z told The New York Post.

Parlux lawyer Anthony Viola told jurors that “Parlux ended up with a celebrity fragrance line where the celebrity disappeared.”

Jay-Z may have 99 problems but a $68 million tab now ain’t one of them. Sorry, I had to.
