About Tom Ford Ombre Leather

For starters, Ombre Leather is a unisex fragrance. The leathery, spicy notes tend to cross over gender lines fluidly. Perfumer Sonia Constant created Ombre Leather in 2018, and it’s been a dominant fragrance since.

Constant was educated at Givaudan School of Perfumery. She also studied at Jean-Jacques Guerlain’s Institut Supérieur International du Parfum.

She’s created or been affiliated with 166 perfumes, including Burberry Brit Summer for Men and Rouge Rubeus Milano for women.

For Constant, Ombre Leather is a staple of her warm, eccentric style.

What Does Ombre Leather Smell Like?

Some compare Ombre Leather to Tuscan Leather. In terms of scent profiles, they are a close match. If you don’t like Tuscan Leather, you aren’t likely to enjoy Ombre Leather. Both fragrances are under Tom Ford’s line.

Ombre Leather is a very long-lasting scent. Its notes offer a balance and maturity exclusive to this profile.

On the top, we find Cardomom. In the middle, we find our Jasmine and, of course, leather. The base notes offer amber, patchouli, and moss.

Ombre Leather opens strong. And that opening features an immediate pop of leather. The cardamom, which should pop first, isn’t always to be found. And that’s OK given the overall end game. There’s nothing sweet about Ombre Leather. While some people don’t prefer heavy leather fragrances, claiming they “smell like a new car,” Ombre Leather impresses with its potency and balance.

Constant’s use of few notes sets her apart from her predecessors. She didn’t try for extravagance but more for balance and synergy. As a result, Ombre Leather indeed identifies with a sort of purity.

I would classify Ombre Leather as a classic, traditional scent. Some feel the unisex labeling is misleading, given the intense leather scent. But I don’t see that as accurate at all.

Ombre Leather in Commercials

As expected, Ombre Leather’s commercials feature a dark setting that’s as enigmatic as bold. One is more of a brand campaign that merely focuses on the bottle. The second infuses hip-hop and Jay-Z’s rapping narration.
